Mr. Nand Kumar, IAS
Mr. Nand Kumar is a Senior Indian Administrative (IAS) officer of the Maharashtra cadre. From 2015-18, he served as the Principal Secretary for School Education and Sports Department for the Government of Maharashtra responsible for providing quality education to 20 million children across 100 thousand schools served by 700,000 teachers. As per ASER report during his tenure quality in government schools overtook that of private schools. Improvement in some of the indicators were upto 10 times compared to other States. Enrolment of children reversed. Myth of English medium is broken. He currently heads ‘Protocols’ in the General Administration Department (GAD) of Maharashtra State. Mr Nandkumar has been in the field of education for more than 20 of his 28 year career. He was Secretary, School Education Department of Chhattisgarh State for 3 years, whilst holding the charge of Director, State Council for Educational Research & Training for about 4 years, and Director Adult Education for 4.5 Years. He has worked with UNICEF for 4.5 years where he handled a Primary Education Enhancement Programme for two districts in Maharashtra. During his career he completed his B.Ed. (2007), MBA in Human Resource Development (2004), Certificate course in Teaching of Primary Math (2002). He has deep study of out of school children with a view to 100% children in school and learning. He has been instrumental in the setting up of Maharashtra International Education Board (MIEB) and bringing about revolutionary changes in the education system of Maharashtra.
Mr. Madhukar Banuri - Founder & CEO, Leadership for Equity
Madhukar is the Founder & CEO of 'Leadership For Equity'. In 2015, he started the education vertical at 'Pune City Connect' to implement interventions for scaling quality education in all regional medium municipal schools. Madhukar previously spent five years with Teach For India - as a 2009 Fellow of the first cohort and also as a manager working on school and government relations in Pune. He started his professional career in Product Marketing with Larsen & Toubro. Madhukar holds an engineering degree from BITS Pilani. He is a 2015 Acumen India Fellow and also serves on the Advisory Board of Teach For India. With around 10 years of experience in education, Madhukar has participated in numerous national & international forums to understand the emerging aspects and trends in education reform. He is passionate about bringing large scale systemic change in public school systems, and is a strong believer in the fact that public systems are gatekeepers of equity, and true quality at scale will only emerge by transforming government education.
Ms. Manjushree Patil - Founder, Aatman Academy
Ms. Manjushree Patil is the founder of Aatman Academy a customised learning and specialised instruction inclusive school for children with diverse learning needs that has been ranked amongst the top 10 in the same category for two consecutive years, by the Education World Magazine. She has been in the field of education for 29 years as a Teacher, Special Educator, Teacher Educator and a Principal of a Cambridge International School.
She has been an Advisor, Consultant and Chief Trainer for a yearlong statewide programme on Inclusive Education with the Gov.of Maharashtra, impacting more than 5 lakh teachers from 36 districts of Maharashtra. A TEDx Speaker and a recipient of the Americans with Disabilities Act Anniversary Fellowship on Inclusive Education, by the US State Department of Education at the University of Minnesota, she is also an Acumen India Fellow, a mentee of the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women Mentoring Women in Business Programme (UK) and the Legatum Summer School (Tuscany, Italy). She is a D.Ed. and B.Ed. in Special Education from SNDT University after graduating in English Literature and Linguistics. She also holds a Masters in Education with a dissertation in Teacher Education.
